Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille on Penalties to Lift French Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now secured the season-opening trophy on fourteen different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring early on.

However, Marseille fired twice in the closing moments to take a surprise advantage. Initially, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital equaliser in the final seconds to send the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving crucial attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for PSG to complete a 4-1 penalty win.

The record winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the past thirteen years.
